The linen question
Our printer asked why we insist on linen covers when buckram is cheaper. A meditation on materials.
Buckram is durable, affordable, and feels like a library binding — which is to say, like an institution. Linen feels like a possession. We want these books owned, carried, dog-eared, and eventually inherited.
The unit cost difference is forty-one cents. We have decided the next two generations are worth it.
